Dying Breed in production
Sydney based Production Company, Ambience Entertainment, announce production has begun in Tasmania on their first full length feature film, Dying Breed. Producer on the film is veteran television Producer, Michael Boughen. Scripted by Michael Boughen and Rod Morris, with Jody Dwyer (Twisted Tales) directing Dying Breed is being filmed on Tasmanias West Coast near Tullah over the next 6 days, before moving to Melbourne.
Having produced countless hours of entertainment for the small screen in my career, I look forward to putting together this thrilling and remarkable tale for the big screen. Our Director, Jody Dwyers vision for the film coupled with his directing style should give audiences a thrill a minute ride Said Producer and co-writer, Michael Boughen
The film will star Leigh Whannell (Co-creator/writer & actor Saw 1, producer, co-writer Saw 2 & 3), as well as Nathan Phillips (Snakes on a Plane, Wolf Creek) and introduces newcomers, Melanie Valejo and Mirrah Foulkes in the lead roles.
Dying Breed is inspired by the bizarre Australian legend of Alexander Pearce - a convict of the 19th century, who was nicknamed 'the Pieman' after dining on his fellow escapees in the Tasmanian wilderness before being captured by police. Dying Breed is set in the modern day, when a group of four set out on a quest to prove that the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) still lives in the Tasmanian forests. They become prey when they wander into the domain of the living descendents of the Pieman - who retain their ancestor's taste for human flesh.
Dying Breed is a modern day horror story, with its roots set in the factual history of Australias bloody convict past, a theme that has not been investigated in an Australian horror film before. Said Boughen
